What can popular culture teach us? I'm a sucker.
Most people know this already, but whatever. I consume pop culture. Commercialism really does work on me, I'm not too ashamed to say this. What I mean by this , is if I'm watching t.v and there's a commercial for Dr Pepper. I will want a Dr Pepper.
It's a mixture of this. Morbid curiosity that is truly never satisfied until delved into. As well as a general willingness…
"Fuck!!!" I screamed.
I started trashing the room. Lamp, smashed. T.V? Equally smashed.
Inconsolable, nothing was helping. Maybe I should punch the wall a few more times.
I had been informed that my ex had started seeing one of the worst people I could ever imagine to have existed. But alas, in this current dream I'm in, this human male has no face nor name inside my mind. I just know that he is complete…
So as I may have mentioned before, various odd encounters have engulfed my life of late. Exhibit A ([most] names are changed to protect the innocent[?]) :
Last week, I went with Ross to meet a friend at a bar in Brooklyn. I feel like adding that it was indeed Karaoke night. But for once, in such a situation we opted to sit this one out, and just chill in the back patio instead (man, am I glad we did that!). The…
So the last month (or so) I have been in Santa Barbara and L.A working hard on the new Solange Knowles record. You can read all about it and see pictures by visiting her blog. But yeah, It's been intense and amazing all at the same time. Locked away from the world in several retreats with ourselves (including my room mate and amazing drummer Chris Egan, and Vince from the band Midnight…Continue

I've only recently discovered this Gary Weis documentary. Filmed in 1979, this 66 minute long documentary follows the daily lives of two South Bronx gangs of New York. The Savage Skulls and the Savage Nomads.
The title of course refers to distance from Tiffany's in upper Manhattan in regards to where these two gangs would frequent in the south bronx.
The documentary is beautifully shot, at least I…
You can now check out a recording of my special on NPR with host Liane Hansen. Played in the show are several pieces of music I have written including one of the piano concerto's I did. I also speak in detail about various influences as well as the writing and recording process for the last lightspeed Champion album "Life Is…Continue
So whilst hanging out at a Menagerie in Summerland, Santa Barbara CA (as you do) my friend Chris started telling me how parrots are one of the few animals that can recognize key change. So I decided to try and test this out. Click the link below for the video of what happened from that point onwards.
This is truly amazing.
In his final strip (incidentally published a day after his death on the 13th February 2000) Charles Schulz ends by saying of his cartoon friends who he has drawn over 50 years "Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus and Lucy.... how can I ever forget you..." Ringing true a sad undercurrent, that for me was always present within his art. One thing people may not be aware of is how big a Peanuts fan I truly am, and how much of…Continue

Hi everybody! I'm currently in L.A right now, working hard on Solange's new album with a bunch of awesome people. Drums are being tracked right now by my good friend and room mate Chris Egan.
This gives me time right now to ponder on life. My ongoing quest for a life reset has lead me to a juncture. I'm considering shaving my head.
As pointed out by quite a few people I've posed this question to today, I do wear a hat…

For a long time now I have been fascinated by this strange and compelling scene, known as pop music.
These are the opening words spoken by legendary New York Philharmonic Composer Leonard Bernstein in the 1967 CBS documentary titled "Inside…

When was the last time that you had a great conversation with a stranger?
Like a complete stranger, someone you also didn't speak to again afterwards.. so you never actually became friends following said conversation?
A couple months ago, I was walking from Hollywood to Silverlake. I had wire in my mouth from the surgery a few days prior and a headache and meat sweats due to a painkiller/heatwave/burger…
